Jo's Adventure Dress (1840s-1870s)
Jo's Adventure Dress (1840s-1870s)
Be your own Jo March in a perfectly tailored, high-quality, historically accurate mid-Victorian day dress. Whether you are an attendee at an event, a historical reenactor, an actress in theatre, or an avid admirer of the books by Louisa May Alcott, this dress will make you feel ready for an adventure with Jo!
This dress is also historically accurate for Dickens and pioneer impressions from the 1840s-1870s. It is the style most women would have worn daily, unlike the fancy dresses we so often see that were worn by upper-class women. It is versatile and can be worn for both farm work and events. It is based on an extant examples found here.

Current fabric choices are shown with inspiration photos to help you visualize the dress in that fabric. These inspiration photos are either photos of extant dresses or period fashion plates. They serve ONLY as inspiration and do NOT depict exactly how your dress will be made. Once you order, I will contact you to discuss measurements and confirm exact details.
If you would like this dress made in a black or gray, check out Jo's Dressmaking Attire. Feel free to contact us through the "Custom Orders" page if you wish to provide your own fabric or you have a different color in mind than the ones shown.
To achieve the correct historical silhouette, this gown is pictured over a corset, crinoline, and petticoats, but no corset, crinoline, or petticoats are included with this listing. This dress is made to fit over a historical corset and will not fit correctly over modern undergarments. However, if you would like your commissioned dress to fit over modern undergarments, please send an email, and I will be happy to oblige!
Measure your bust and waist and choose your size based on the pictured sizing guidelines. For the most accurate fit, please take the measurements while wearing your corset. The dress will be hemmed to accommodate hoops and sit about 2" off the floor, based on the measurements you provide on the measurement worksheet.

HOW TO MEASURE YOURSELF
Please measure yourself while wearing the corset and other undergarments you plan to wear with the gown. Remember that measurements such as your bust and waist should be 1-1.5" inches smaller than the dress measurements, to allow for ease of movement.
Refer to the measurement graphic in the listing and this video tutorial if you need assistance in understanding and taking your measurements. If you still have additional questions, please feel free to email me.

I am a hard to fit lady. I am pear shaped with small shoulders and a very wide hip. This dress is made to every detail as I asked. It is the perfect dress for reenactment! Absolutely gorgeous and I could not have asked for better communication. I will be a return customer!
I just received my dress and it is beautiful! Tiffany was so helpful and communicative during the whole process & I really appreciated that. The quality of the dress is amazing and I would definitely come back for any needed accessories😊
Sewn with the greatest care for detail, the dress is exactly as I dreamed. Tiffany patiently listened to all my wishes and was open to additional requests throughout the process. She contacted me regularly to discuss every detail. The dress is dazzling. I am so glad I chose Stitchin' Addiction to create my dream dress and would recommend this experience to anyone.
This is an absolutely beautiful dress; well made, accurate, and perfectly tailored. I can't wait to wear if for years to come.
If I could give this dress a hundred star review, I would. The entire process was so easy and in the end I have a gorgeous dress that I know will last for years. The craftsmanship is just beautiful, there’s such an attention to detail in every stitch. The dress was of course made to my measurements but it still fits even better than I thought it would! It looks stunning over both a corded petticoat and a hoop.
Tiffany is an incredible seamstress. Not only was she so easy to communicate with through all of my questions, she’s just so pleasant to work with and checked up on me during the process, even sending me some pictures when it was almost done.
The dress looks even better than I could have dreamed! My Jo March fantasy has completely come true. I don’t have great pictures of it yet, but once I get some taken I’ll update!
