Be your own Jo March was in this perfectly tailored, high-quality, historically accurate mid-Victorian bathing suit.  Whether you are an attendee at an event, a historical reenactor, an actress in theatre, or an avid admirer of Alcott's works, this bathing suit will be perfect for a day in the water!

This two-piece bathing suit is based on extant examples from the era and consists of bloomers and a knee-length overdress.

As a modeling sample, this set was worn once for photography (and the model even went in the water in it!).  It was washed afterwards and is in like new condition.  It is the only bathing suit in this size, fabric, and design and is available at a reduced price.  It can ship to you in 3-5 business days. Shipping within the U.S. is FREE for all orders over $50.

This ensemble can also be commissioned in the size and fabric of your choice. Commission pricing starts at $719. If you would like to commission it in the size and color of your choice, message me today!

ALL THE DETAILS

This bathing suit is a women's size 6 (small) and is ideal for heights of about 5'6" to 5'8".  It includes two (2) pieces: bloomers and a knee-length overdress.  True to bathing suits of the period, it is made of a blue gray 100% wool flannel, with a 100% cotton homespun plaid lining and red rayon middy braid trim.  All components have been pre-washed to avoid shrinkage and color-bleeding.

The bathing suit features:

  • wool flannel with a full cotton lining
  • an "O" shaped bodice with a high neckline
  • dropped shoulders
  • contrasting red middy braid on the bodice, wrist, hem, and ankle
  • gathers in the front and back waistline to gather the bodice to the waistband
  • front button bodice closure
  • long, full-gathered sleeves with button-up cuffs
  • a knee length skirt with a width of 80"
  • bloomers gathered to a waistband and ankle bands
  • button closure on both sides of the bloomer waistband

The bathing suit measurements are as follows:

  • bust: up to 36"
  • waist: up to 30"

If you would like additional measurements, please contact us and we will be happy to provide them!

To achieve the correct historical silhouette, the dress is pictured over a corset, but no corset is included with this listing.

HOW TO MEASURE YOURSELF

Please measure yourself while wearing the corset and other undergarments you plan to wear with the bathing suit.  Remember that measurements such as your bust and waist should be 1-1.5" inches smaller than the measurements, to allow for ease of movement. Refer to the measurement graphic in the listing and this video tutorial if you need assistance in understanding and taking your measurements. If you still have additional questions, please feel free to email me.
