Miss Lambe's Wardrobe (1800-1815)

Be your own Georgiana Lambe in a perfectly tailored, high-quality, historically accurate Regency era capsule wardrobe. Whether you are an attendee at an event, a historical reenactor, an actress in theatre, or an avid admirer of Jane Austen's works, these outfits will make you feel like the wealthy heroine in Austen's last unfinished work!

Before the age of fast fashion, Regency women had a limited wardrobe. They would combine the pieces they had in various ways before eventually remaking them into the latest fashions. This fact inspired Miss Lambe's Wardrobe, a Regency-era capsule wardrobe consisting of four color-coordinating pieces: a colorful petticoat, a white shirtwaist, a sheer white evening gown, and a patterned day dress. Each piece is based on extant gowns and fashion plates.  When you buy the entire wardrobe, instead of buying each piece individually, you receive a 10% discount!

When you purchase a made-to-order item, you get the capsule wardrobe of your dreams by choosing the fabric from the drop-down options, providing measurements for a custom fit, and even purchasing extra available add-ons! (Search the website for “add-ons” to see what’s available!)  Please note that trims such as lace, braid, etc. will vary slightly depending on stock available. Contact us through the “Custom Orders” page if you would like to discuss additional fabric and customization options that are not available on this listing.

As a custom piece, this item is professionally handmade at my Texas (USA) studio and order fulfillment takes 10-12 weeks. Please see the website header for a current estimate on the month your order will be shipped to you. Shipping within the U.S. is FREE for all orders over $50.

ALL THE DETAILS

These outfits are made-to-order : choose the size that you currently wear in contemporary sizing and choose the fabric combination from the fabric choices. Within 48 hours of receiving your order, I will send you a measurement worksheet listing the measurements required for a perfect fit. 

The colorful petticoat is the foundation of the wardrobe.  It can be worn in the morning with the shirtwaist beneath it or in the afternoon or evening underneath one of the dresses to give added color.

The colorful petticoat includes:

• 100% cotton fabric
• two cotton twill tape drawstrings - one in top front bodice and one in the underbust band
• a back closure of buttons and the underbust drawstring
• a fitted front skirt
• a back skirt with pleats on each side
• a minimum width of 60"
• multiple 1" tucks above the hem to hold your skirts out from your legs

The shirtwaist includes:

• 100% cotton lawn fabric
• "shirt" collar
• gathers in the neckline at front and back center
• a front opening that ties shut with a drawstring
• long sleeves with a cuff closure at the wrist
• underarm gussets
• eyelet trim on the sleeve cuff

The day dress is based on an extant from Patterns of Fashion and can be worn by itself or with the colorful petticoat beneath it.  You can also purchase the sash add-on if you would like an added pop of color.

The day dress includes:

• patterned fabric of your choice
• a square neckline
• a front gathered bodice
• an underbust band with a hidden drawstring in it
• a back closure of buttons and the drawstring
• fitted half sleeves
  
• a skirt that is gathered in back center, but fitted on the sides and front

The sheer white gown allows your colorful petticoat to shine through. 

The evening gown includes:

• 100% cotton voile fabric (if you would like the tufted cotton lawn shown on the sample dress, contact us - it is available for an additional price)
• a rounded neckline with a drawstring in bodice front
• underbust gathers
• a back closure of buttons
• short, puffed sleeves with narrow cuffs and a button closure
• a skirt that is gathered in back center, but fitted on the sides and front
• a tuck running around the hemline

PLEASE NOTE: Dress does NOT include the pictured ribbon sashes.  Add the Regency Sash Add-on to your cart when you order to get a sash for your dress!

Current fabric choices are shown, but feel free to contact us through the "Custom Orders" page if you wish to provide your own fabric or you have a different color combination in mind than the ones shown.  

To achieve the correct historical silhouette, these items are pictured over a chemise, stays, and petticoat, but no chemise, stays, or petticoat are included with this listing. These garments are made to fit over stays and will not fit correctly over modern undergarments. However, if you would like your commissioned dress to fit over modern undergarments, please send a message, and I will be happy to oblige!

Measure your bust and waist and choose your size based on the pictured sizing guidelines. For the most accurate fit, please take the measurements while wearing your stays and other undergarments (i.e. chemise, petticoat, etc). The dress will be hemmed to sit about about 2" off the floor; this will be based on the measurements you enter in the personalization box.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

A care card will be included with your order, but if you choose a silk or wool fabric, it will be dry clean only.  Most dresses made with cotton, linen, or polyester fabrics can be washed.

All fabrics are preshrunk, usually by prewashing.  Seller is not responsible for any allergic reactions to the detergent used in prewashing.

Items with buttons will arrive with an extra button sewn inside.
