Jane's Open Robe (1795-1810)
Jane's Open Robe (1795-1810)
Be your own Jane Bennet in this high-quality, historically accurate Regency era open robe. Whether you are an attendee at an event, a historical reenactor, an actress in theatre, or an avid admirer of Jane Austen's works, this robe will make you feel elegant and is sure to catch the eye of your Mr. Bingley!
An open robe is an easy and cost effective way to add interest to a plain gown or create a new look so that you can wear the same gown twice. For instance, adding a colorful open robe over a white Regency gown can make the perfect ensemble for your next Regency ball! This open robe can be made with or without sleeves and is based on extants and fashion plates from the Regency era.

ALL THE DETAILS
This robe is made to order in standardized sizing - choose the size that you currently wear in contemporary sizing and choose the fabric combination from the fabric choices. Within 48 hours of receiving your order, I will send you a measurement worksheet listing the measurements required for a perfect fit.
The open robe features:
- the fabric of your choice (choose from the drop down options)
- a bodice fully-lined with a 100% lightweight cotton
- front hook and eye closure, which fits under the bust
- classic Regency diamond shape back
- three-quarter length sleeves (optional - choose from the options)
The photo shows the robe with a train, which is an add-on. If you want the train, you MUST add the "train add-on" from the Jane Austen Collection to your cart when purchasing.
Current fabric choices are shown with inspiration photos to help you visualize the dress in that fabric. These inspiration photos are either photos of extant dresses or period fashion plates. They serve ONLY as inspiration and do NOT depict exactly how your dress will be made. Once you order, I will contact you to discuss measurements and confirm exact details.
Feel free to contact us through the "Custom Orders" page if you wish to provide your own fabric or you have a different color in mind than the ones shown.
To achieve the correct historical silhouette, it is pictured over a chemise, stays, and petticoat, but no chemise, stays, or petticoat are included with this listing. This robe is made to fit over stays and will not fit correctly over modern undergarments. However, if you would like your commissioned robe to fit over modern undergarments, please send a message, and I will be happy to oblige!
Measure your bust and waist to determine which size to order and choose your size based on the following sizing guidelines. For the most accurate fit, please take the measurements while wearing your stays and other undergarments (i.e. chemise, petticoat, etc). The robe will be hemmed to sit about 2" off the floor; this will be based on the measurements you enter in the personalization box.
