Jane's Morning Gown (1800-1810)
Jane's Morning Gown (1800-1810)
Be your own Jane Bennet in this high-quality, historically accurate Regency era morning gown. Whether you are an attendee at an event, a historical reenactor, an actress in theatre, or an avid admirer of Jane Austen's works, this gown will make you feel elegant and is sure to catch the eye of your Mr. Bingley!
During the Regency era, different dresses were worn based on the time of day and activity. Morning gowns were for lounging while reading or doing needlework in the morning and may well have been what Jane was wearing when Bingley paid his surprise visit and proposed. This gown is based on an original from Patterns of Fashion and these extant morning gowns and fashion plates.

ALL THE DETAILS
This morning gown is made-to-order: choose the size that you currently wear in contemporary sizing and choose the fabric combination from the fabric choices. Within 3-5 business days of receiving your order, I will send you a measurement worksheet listing the measurements required for a perfect fit.
The morning gown includes:
- fully lined bodice (lined with 100% cotton lawn)
- front wrap closure
- a drawstring that runs under the bust, to allow for adjustability
- elbow length sleeves with a tuck on on the end
- double ruffles on the bottom of the skirt
- a skirt that is gathered in back center, but fitted on the front and sides
Current fabric choices are shown with inspiration photos to help you visualize the dress in that fabric. These inspiration photos are either photos of extant dresses or period fashion plates. They serve ONLY as inspiration and do NOT depict exactly how your dress will be made. Once you order, I will contact you to discuss measurements and confirm exact details.
If you would like this morning gown made in white fabric, check out Lydia's White Gown to order. Feel free to contact us through the "Custom Orders" page if you wish to provide your own fabric or you have a different color in mind than the ones shown.
To achieve the correct historical silhouette, it is pictured over a shift, stays, and petticoat, but no shift, stays, or petticoat are included with this listing. This morning gown is made to fit over stays and will not fit correctly over modern undergarments. However, if you would like your commissioned morning gown to fit over modern undergarments, please send a message, and I will be happy to oblige!
Measure your bust and waist and choose your size based on the pictured sizing guidelines. For the most accurate fit, please take the measurements while wearing your stays and other historical undergarments. The morning gown will be hemmed to sit about 2" off the floor, based on the measurements you send after you order.

HOW TO MEASURE YOURSELF
Please measure yourself while wearing the stays and other undergarments you plan to wear with the morning gown. Remember that measurements such as your bust and waist should be 1-1.5" inches smaller than the dress measurements, to allow for ease of movement.
Refer to the measurement graphic in the listing and this video tutorial if you need assistance in understanding and taking your measurements. If you still have additional questions, please feel free to email me.
