Fanny's Dress (1800-1820)

Turn your child into a miniature Jane Austen character and pass on your love of Austen's works by gifting them a historically accurate, Regency era child's dress.  Made of quality fabrics, this investment will last through hours of reenactments, events, and creative play.  

Historically, children's clothing was made to accommodate growth, and this design has gathers, drawstrings, and growth tucks to accommodate the developing child for two to three years.  It is based off extant designs and fashion plates.

ALL THE DETAILS

Dresses are made in standardized sizing; use the size chart to choose the correct size for your child.

The dress includes:

• a bodice that is gathered in both front and back
• a round neckline
• an underbust band with a drawstring to allow for adjustability
• back closure of drawstring ties; some dresses may have buttons over the ties, as well
• short, puffed sleeves that end in a loose cuff OR fitted elbow-length sleeves that end in a ruffle
• a skirt that is slightly gathered in front and fully gathered in back
• a FREE ribbon or fabric sash for the dress

Each dress is unique and some dresses come with outerwear or accessories.  Please read the listing graphics carefully and choose accordingly from the dropdown options.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. 

If you would like to add historical undergarments to your order, please find the Regency Undergarments in the Children's Collection section and add the desired items to your cart.

Measure your child's chest, waist, and dress length according to the sizing graphic, then choose your child's size according to the sizing chart.  For the most accurate fit, please take the measurements snug to your child's body (or over any undergarments, such as a chemise, that you already own and plan to have them wear). The dress will have wearing ease in it, with at least 3-5" extra in the chest area and 2-3" extra in the underbust area (which can be pulled in with the underbust drawstring).

The dress is hemmed to sit about about 2" off the floor; however, if your child is shorter or taller than the measurement on the size chart, let us know in the comment box on the check out page, and we will lengthen/shorten the dress at no extra charge.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

This will depend on the dress/outfit chosen.  A care card will be included with your order; dresses made with cotton, linen, or polyester fabrics can be machine washed.  If you choose a silk or wool fabric, it will be dry clean only.

All items are prewashed and preshrunk. Seller is not responsible for any allergic reactions to the detergent used in prewashing.

Items that have buttons on them come with an extra button sewn inside.
